Website International Cocoa Initiative (ICI)

In order to assist the abolition of child labour in cocoa-growing communities, the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), a non-profit organisation founded in 2002, fosters collaboration between the chocolate and cocoa industries, governments of cocoa-producing countries, the civil society, and NGOs. Our main office is in Geneva, Switzerland, and we also have national offices in Accra and Abidjan for our activities in Ghana and the Ivory Coast.

The Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS), created by ICI, enables industry partners to appropriately monitor the risk of child labour in their supply chains for cocoa. According to the Ghana Child Labor Monitoring System (GCLMS), the system is built on the presence of Community Facilitators (CF) in villages where cocoa is grown who increased awareness of the issue of child labour, identify cases, and carry out corrective measures.

In order to solve child and forced labour in the cocoa business, governments are collaborating with the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), a multi-stakeholder organisation that brings together the forces of civil society, certifiers, the cocoa and chocolate industry, and international institutions.
